There's Nothing Wrong with Ruby Rose's Acting...

There's Nothing Wrong With Ruby Rose's Acting...  (You're Just Homophobic) Let's be real honest here: There is NOTHING WRONG with Ruby Rose's acting, you're just NOT USED TO SEEING an openly queer and gender fluid actor playing queer roles. That's why Ruby has haters from all sides, and it's nothing to do with her acting. Let's break that down a bit. Since breaking into movies, former model Ruby Rose has been seen the most in the action movie genre. She's played roles opposite lead actors such as Jason Statham (The Meg), Vin Diesel (XXX: The Return of Xander Cage), and Keanu Reeves (John Wick: Chapter 2), to name a few. Now you look me in the eye and tell me that any of those lead male actors I just listed can ACT. Because they can't, not very well.  In fact, it's somewhat of a joke that they can't act. How many times has it been mentioned that Keanu can't act but mentioned in a loving, affectionate way. Like, 'aw, he tri

The Only Problem Batwoman Has Is Toxic CW Fans

The Only Problem Batwoman Has Is Toxic CW Fans *(But we knew that already!) Let's be clear on one thing: t he cast of Batwoman has never been a problem.  Good casting blessed this show from the beginning, and it only got better when Javicia Leslie joined the show for season 2 (following Ruby Rose's departure at the end of season 1). The cast is good, the show is good, the story is good, the Bat-aesthetics are good (if not amazing). I enjoyed season 1 immensely and I look forward to season 2 with Javicia Leslie in the new lead of Batwoman/Ryan Wilder. Our mission as fans of the show going forward is clear: protect Javicia Leslie from trolls who hate Batwoman for no good reason. Fans already stepped up to the plate on social media, following the season 2 debut on Sunday 17 with Javicia joining the show.  Media site The Wrap posted a snide tweet about ratings and tagged the actress herself: Fans spoke up, the tweet was deleted but soon to be followed by another snide twee

Tired Trope: The Untrustworthy Arab

[Image: thesaurus entry for the word 'untrustworthy', next to image of fictional character Rashid from Knightfall] Tired Trope: Untrustworthy Arabs Hello, I'm back to drag a trope that Hollywood and mainstream western media loves to recycle: the untrustworthy Arabic character. With western, English speaking media, there isn't a whole lot of choice when it comes to seeing diversity among characters or even the cast. If you like the action genre like I do, there's even less diversity plus the fact that the characters tend to fall into one of two roles, heroes or villains. Guess which one Arabs and MENA (Middle Eastern and North African) fall into? Usually the baddies.  But there's a baddie adjacent trope Hollywood loves also! Even in the few instances when the Arabic character is technically a good guy, they are shown as the untrustworthy Arab. The untrustworthy Arab trope frames the Arabic or MENA character(s) as baddies/villains from the white w
